A book cover redesign for a whimsical fairy tale by Gregory McGuire. What the
Dickens is the story of a rogue tooth fairy told to three children by their cousin during
a dangerous storm. These covers represent two different designs for the book as
well as some unused options.
The first cover shows the title character in a tiger's
mouth because What-the-Dickens' tiger's tooth is his prized posession and a key element
in the story. The second cover plays on the phrase "Skibbereen are never seen," with
a fairy almost hidden on a tree stump. The other covers are based on the ideas of a
tooth fairy, teeth, and birthday cake, another important item in the story.
